inneradult (New Age) The development of an inner adult personality at some point of time in one’s life. Though it is expected to develop around the age of twenty-one years, for most it happens only when one works for it. Some never choose to have an inner adult, remaining INNER ADOLESCENTs.
inner advancement (Occ.) Also, inner unfoldment. The spritual progress of a person.
inner bodies (Yoga) The subtle sheaths within the mind–body complex of a human organism. 2. Bodies of a person within the gross, physical body.
inner bonding (Occ.) A psycho-spiritual approach, aimed at creating a powerful INNER ADULT, capable of curing various kinds of addictions.
inner child (Mod./New Age) Also, divine child, wonder child, child within, and true self. The inner child, which represents the emotional self, with feelings, stands created with the help of parents and other elders in one’s childhood; it refers to the part of a person which experiences joy, sadness, anger, fear or affection. The frustrations, disappointments and other wounds received by the inner child continue to haunt till they are addressed with the help of religio-spiritual techniques such as QI GONG and PRANAYAMA. These techniques are believed to help in developing a wise, loving, self-affirming and nurturing Self, which instead of spanking the inner child, makes it relax through love and compassion.
inner-child cards (Occ.) A method of DIVINATION, as developed by Isha and Mark Lerner, aimed at re-awakening the child within. A seventy-eight-card TAROT deck, which illumines the mystical meaning of fairy tales.
inner childwork (Occ.) Also, Inner-child therapy. A form of PSYCHOTHERAPY, aimed at resolving childhood issues that affect adults. See also INNER CHILD.
inner enemies (Yoga) According to Vedanta, anger, delusion, desire, envy, greed and pride are the six inner enemies which cause suffering.
inner garden (Occ.) Imagining one’s own state of mind as a garden, well-tended, watered and made to bloom is believed to promote well-being.
inner healing (Occ.) An approach to healing, aimed at releasing deep-rooted energy blockages, having a link to the Freudian and Jungian theories. The approach is based on the theory that healing comes through the uprooting of negative memories or ‘hurts’, caused by others in early childhood, lying buried in the subconscious from where they tend to dictate our behavior without awareness on our part.
inner life (Occ.) The life an individual leads in his or her emotional, mental and spiritual mental depths, and which is distinguishable from one’s outward life and lifestyle statements.
‘What fools indeed we mortals are, To lavish care upon a car, With ne’er a bit of time to see, About our own machinery!’
